For my work on the popularization of kurash in Ukraine and in the world, I was twice awarded the IKA Gold Medal. According to the results of 2011, the Kurash Federation of Ukraine was recognized as the best Federation in the world.

Olha Machugina: I am a professional lawyer. From 1986 to 2005, I worked as a lawyer in various organizations. In 2005, my husband, Volodymyr Machugin, invited me to work on the creation of the Kurash Federation in Ukraine and the development of Kurash in Ukraine. In 2005, the Federation was registered. I am the General Secretary of the Federation and I am engaged in all documentary work related to its activities.
During the work, I prepared many important documents on kurash in Ukraine. In particular, I took part in the preparation of the Kurash Sports Competition Program, the Kurash Classification Standards of Ukraine, which have already been approved by the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine. Also in 2012, I prepared a draft Kurash Program for children and youth sports schools. The Scientific Research Institute of physical education and sports of Ukraine after the editions subsequently made an expert assessment of this Program and recommended its use in all sports schools of Ukraine. In 2012, this Program was approved by the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine. Currently, there are 18 kurash departments in sports schools in Ukraine.
I also worked on kurash on the International level. At first I was a member of the IKA Law Committee. Then the International leadership evaluated my activity, and my candidacy was recommended to the IKA`s Directing committee. In 2010, I was first elected as a member of the IKA`s Directing committee. Now I am a member of the IKA`s DC and I am acting as a Director on Equality in Sport of IKA.
WHERE ARE YOU BAISED AT ?

Volovymyr Machugin: KFU operates throughout Ukraine. The most active regions in Ukraine by kurash: Kiev, Kiev region, Donetsk region, Khmelnitsky region, Zaporizhzhya region.
The central office of the Federation is located in Kiev at the address: Kiev, Kurenevskaya street, 5.7.

HOW IS THE KURASH OPERATION SYSTEM IN YOUR COUNTRY? AS FAR AS I KNOW KURASH IS NOT FEDERATION. HOW DO YOU OPERATE ALONE OR WITH OTHER SPORTS?

Olha Machugina: The Kurash Federation of Ukraine has been officially operating since November 1, 2005. The territory of its activity is all of Ukraine. The Federation works in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine. The Kurash sport was officially recognized in Ukraine in 2005. In 2015, the Federation has been awarded the status of "National Federation of Ukraine" by the Ministry of Sports. Every year, starting in 2006, our Federation holds all mandatory sports competitions in Ukraine of kurash - on the basis of orders of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine: Ukrainian championships among children, cadets, youth and seniors. Also, our athletes have been participating in International kurash competitions since 2004.

WHO IS NOW IN CHARGE OF KURASH AFFAIRS NOW IN YOUR COUNTRY?

Volovymyr Machugin: Kurash Federation of Ukraine (KFU).

WHAT ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU HAD IN 2019 -2020

Volovymyr Machugin: In April 2019, the Ukrainian Kurash team took part in the European Championship, which was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Ukrainian athletes showed good results: 5 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals.
Also in April, we held together with the Ministry of Culture and Education of Ukraine the Kurash Championship of Ukraine among schoolchildren - Snegurevka, Mykolaiv Oblast.
During 2019, the Kurash Federation of Ukraine organized as usual 3 Championships and 1 Kurash Cup in Ukraine - on the basis of orders of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine.
June - Kurash Cup among seniors (beach kurash) – Urzuf - city, Donetsk region; October - Ukrainian Championship among seniors - Rivne, Rivne region; December – Championship among children and Championship among cadets - Snegurevka, Nikolaev region. All these Championships were held at a high level. The Honored guests were representatives of the local leadership of the regions and deputies of the Supreme Council of the country.
Also in August-September 2019, the sports team of Ukraine took part in the World Kurash Championship (Jeonju, Korea). Ukrainian athletes took two fifths and one ninth place.
All the successes of our Federation became possible only thanks to the active work of our team in Ukraine. Many people take part in the popularization of kurash in our country, and each contribution is very important for us.
PLEASE EXPLAIN FULLY HOW YOU RUN THE FEDERATION AS HUSBAND AND WIFE , PLEASE EXPLAIN THE GOOD AND BAD THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN AS A HUSBAND AND WIFE WHILST RUNNING A FEDERATION?

Olha Machugina: From the very beginning of our united work with Volodymyr, we agreed that I will be engaged in all documentary work, and he will carry out general management of the Federation and deal with organizational issues. Of course, Vladimir is the most important Kurash leader in Ukraine, and he makes all decisions, related to the work of the Federation as a President. If I sometimes do not even agree with him, then I can express my opinion to him, but he will make the final decision. This strategy helps us to avoid conflicts of interest and different opinions at the level of leadership of the Federation. As the wife of the President of the Federation, it’s convenient for me to work with my husband, because we can replace each other in some cases. We can also discuss our problems and various issues at home, for making operational decisions.

ARE YOU MORE INTERESTED IN COACHING , REFEREEING OR MANAGEMENT?
Volovymyr Machugin: In the process of work, we are faced with a variety of tasks. First of all, for me personally, as the President of the Federation, it is very important to be competent in all areas of Kurash activity. Therefore, I am pleased and actively engaged in referee work, coaching and daily management. Also, our work is carried out in constant cooperation with the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine. All this takes a very long time and requires a lot of efforts. Also, this activity is very interesting to me, I love my work and kurash. Therefore, I constantly work to improve my level: in the refereeing, in coaching and in management.

WHAT IS YOU VISION FOR KURASH IN YOUR COUNTRY?
Volovymyr Machugin: At present, our main task is to involve as many children as possible to kurash training. It is necessary to organize new departments in sports schools and sports clubs for kurash in our country. The development of any sport begins from children. In addition, playing sports is an opportunity to grow a healthy nation and to distract children from the street, from drugs and alcohol..

FINALLY HOW IS CORONA AFFECTING KURASH NOW IN YOUR COUNTRY?
Volovymyr Machugin: In 2020, the Federation planned and agreed with the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine many kurash competitions. Since the beginning of the year, our athletes have been preparing for participation in international competitions. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, all sport events and trainings in Ukraine have been canceled. So far we cannot continue our activities due to quarantine. However, we hope that the disease will recede, and we will return to the normal life. I hope that sports work will be resumed this year.

Olha Machugina: I wish all our kurash colleagues good health and patience!
